GOODRINGTON with ROSELANDS WARD
WARD COUNCILLORS ELECTED 7th MAY 2015
I live in Paignton having moved to Torbay 9 years ago. Prior to moving here I worked for 20 years for a multi-national company initially as an accountant and later in Marketing and General Management and following that for 9 years as Managing Director of a medium sized company in the soft drinks industry. Moving to Torbay I ran my own business for 5 years but have now retired from business and have the time and dedication to work for and represent you on Torbay council.
I believe that a major challenge for Torbay over the next few years will be to create new employment opportunities in the private sector for its residents and in particular for its young people. It is essential that we generate the wealth required to support our local communities and I intend to ensure that the council works hard to attract business to Torbay and gives as much help and support to existing and start up businesses as it can provide. My experience in running my own business and working for large and small companies will help me achieve this aim.
Over the next 4 years Council funds will be limited but I will work hard to ensure that the budget is spent wisely and for your benefit. As much protection as possible must be given to front line services and I will work with and for the community to benefit all residents in the Goodrington with Roselands ward.
I have lived in the Goodrington With Roselands Ward for twenty four years. I am a Chartered Physiotherapist working in Torquay.
Although I was not born in Paignton, my mother was evacuated here from Plymouth during the war therefore I have fond memories of school holidays spent on Paignton Green and Goodrington Sands. When my husband and I decided to move away from London, Paignton was the natural choice.
We have lived in the Goodrington With Roselands Ward for twenty four years. From 2000-2003 I represented the then St Michaels With Goodrington Ward on Torbay Council. During that time I held the office of Chairman of Social Services and, when the Council went over to the cabinet system I was, initially, the portfolio holder for Tourism and Transport and, subsequently, Social Services, during which period the Department stayed within its budget.
I am a Chartered Physiotherapist and manage the department at Mount Stuart Hospital in Torquay. I see a varied caseload and an increasing number of NHS patients. Within my position I am responsible for the management of the department budget. I am a Trustee and Vice Chairman of RELATE, South Devon. Being a member of the team I am proud to have seen the Centre grow strongly over the last eight years. I am on the Committee of Brixham Operatic and Dramatic Society and have directed their pantomime for the last seventeen years. With my work and outside interests I am privileged to come into contact with so many people which has developed my listening skills.
