TORQUAY councillor Nick Bye is the new chairman of Torbay Conservative Association.He defeated sitting chairman Churston councillor Richard Haddock at a packed annual meeting last night at the Preston Conservative Club.It was a reversal of the vote the year before. Deputy chairman political is former association agent Andrew Barrand.Cllr Bye said:"It was a very positive meeting. We had well over a hundred people. "There was a lot of fire and speeches and good questions, but clearly the great majority of people in the association want to unite and work together and support Kevin Foster as MP and Gordon Oliver as Mayor."The membership of the association is now well over 300 and a lot of the people involved in the successful election in May last year have joined.

Kevin supports tougher powers for security services

Local MP Kevin Foster spoke in the Second Reading of the Investigatory Powers Bill recently. This new law will update and consolidate the powers that the security and intelligence agencies require to keep us safe in an increasingly dangerous world. At the same time, the law will maintain strict codes of practice and will introduce stronger privacy safeguards.

Local MP Kevin Foster was interviewed on BBC Spotlight about the closure of Torquay Magistrates' Court.Kevin has been clear both in public, and in private with Government Ministers, that he does not agree with this decision, and he recently presented a petition to Parliament containing signatures of over 500 local residents urging the Government not to close the Court.

New Regional Growth Fund Investment Coming To The Bay

Kevin Foster, the Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Torbay, has welcomed the announcement of £47 million additional funding from the Regional Growth Fund to help businesses grow and create jobs across the South West Region.

Torbay Mayor, Gordon Oliver is delighted to announce his annual pledge of giving half of his salary to charitable groups. In total 136 grants totaling £86,500 have been handed out to organisations from the Torbay Mayor’s Fund.
