TORBAY LOCAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS – 5th MAY 2011
WELLSWOOD WARD
Beryl McPhail M.B.E.

I have lived in Wellswood for over 30 years and serve as Councillor on Torbay Council.
I have met many of the Ward Residents and do my best to help when they bring their problems to me.
I have been involved in the holiday industry and presently serve as a Director on the Board of the English Riviera Tourism Company representing the Council.
I care passionately about our rich Heritage and our beautiful Environment. I serve as a member of the Heritage Steering Group, Geopark Management Committee, Torquay Museum Trustees Committee. I am also a member of the Council Scrutiny Committee and Planning Committee.
I also attend the Wellswood/Torwood Ward Partnership meetings and am a member of the Steering Group.
I serve as a School Governor on two local Schools i.e. Torquay Girls Grammar and St. Margarets Primary and take an interest in the educational achievements of the pupils.
When time permits, I spend some time working voluntarily in the Animals in Distress Shop in Babbacombe. I have a real interest in animals of all descriptions and care very much for their care and welfare.
Neil Bent

Having lived and been in business in Torquay since 1962, I have an extensive knowledge of the area, and local affairs in the Wellswood and Torwood Ward.
I was delighted to be elected as your Ward Councillor in May 2007 and subsequently to take on the Cabinet portfolio with special responsibilities for the delivery of Adult Social Services and Housing in Torbay.
The future of Torbay must lie in creating a prosperous economy which will provide jobs and wealth for a generation to come. In the last four years, this Conservative administration has made real progress in creating an “open for business” climate for investors both locally and nationally and the green shoots of recovery are now starting to show.
At the same time, we must never lose sight of the contribution our older people have made to the area and ensure that the services they require, and deserve, are maintained and improved. Likewise, we simply cannot ignore the responsibility we owe to our children to create opportunities for them to live and work in the Bay. I have eight grandchildren living in Torbay and I want to be able to ensure that their future lies here.
After four years, I am well aware of issues that concern residents in our Ward – clean streets and public places, anti-social behaviour of all kinds, planning matters, traffic issues and many others and, if re-elected , will work tirelessly to achieve a better quality of life for everybody.
