I have worked as a Development Worker in community for many years supporting residents in identifying environmental and social needs and helping to bring these issues to successful conclusions. I believe passionately in Community involvement and see this as the way forward to ensure local people are involved in local matters.
Young people are the future and I would hope to engage with them to identify opportunities to help in the community at the same time giving them the support to reach their full potential as individuals.
Being a young Senior Citizen myself I recognise that our older residents have a great wealth of life experience and I will do my best to harness this ‘pot of gold’ to the benefit of Watcombe.
I have stood as a Governor for JMI and Comprehensive schools and as a Trustee of an Adult and Community College. I consider that everyone has the right to a good standard of education whatever their ability or disability and would work closely with the local schools to this end.
I have been a Conservative Party member for many years working with and supporting Ward councillors. I now hope to have the opportunity to put my considerable experience at the disposal of all the residents of Watcombe for the benefit of all.
Bruce Cowling.
I have lived in Torquay all my life and was a Local Councillor for the Ellacombe Ward for 12 years.
I was a baker/confectioner by trade and had a taxi business in Torquay for 13 years so I know the area well and am familiar with many of its problems including the problems in Watcombe.
While I was a Councillor I was involved in getting facilities for the young people in Ellacombe.
I helped to get football pitches, new lighting and swings in Brewery Park and was involved in setting up Sure Start for young families.
I very much enjoyed being able to help the many residents who called with problems and that is one of the reasons I want to stand again so that I can use my experience in the Council to help the people of my ward.
If elected I will work tirelessly for Watcombe residents and try to bring their problems to the notice of the Mayor and Council.
