TORBAY LOCAL COUNCIL

PRESTON WARD

David Butt

David says, has spent nearly four years as a councillor and hoping  re-elected in May I am still represent the residents of Preston.  I  continue working with some great officers, many who have become a personal friend in that time.  These are really difficult times but working together I am determined to show how we can continue to regenerate Torbay after many years of decline.  We have   a team returned to the town hall who are  making the tough decisions that are needed to turn around the local economy.”

“Over the last four years, despite the recession, we have successfully brought new hotels to Torbay, worked with the tourism industry to develop a new Tourism Company that is revitalising the industry,  delivered a new library and community centre in Paignton, brought world renowned artists Antony Gormley and Damien Hirst to Torbay and launched an Economic Development Company that will be working with top developers to regenerate specific locations; to name just some of our successes.”

 Chris Lewis

I am a privileged to represent the people of Preston on Torbay Council.  Over the period I have managed to help many residents with their problems and requests.

Working for the people of Preston and Torbay.

In addition to working as your Ward Councillor I have also held the position of Deputy Mayor and the Cabinet member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and Transport.  In those positions I have led with the team on a number of projects including:  the complete refurbishment of Rock Walk, ending the contract with NCP, new business parks at Edginswell and White Rock , the Cockington projet, new branded hotels in the Bay and many more.

Along with your other Preston Councillors we are working in partnership with the vibrant and successful Preston Community Partnership.  We have worked together on include the future of Oldway,  Parkfield New Youth Centre and Hollicombe.  In addition we have been active on the Partnership Committee and attended the Public Meetings listening to what you have to say.

The backbone of our economy in Preston and Torbay is the small and medium size companies, I have been active in Business all my life I know how national and local government can help or hinder them.  If Torbay is to compete with Plymouth, Exeter and the rest of the Country we have to encourage greater economic regeneration in the Bay, Torbay Council must be there to help!

I believe with my experience, determination and business background will strengthen  the team  make Torbaying a better place to Live, Work and Visit.

 Christine Scouler

I have been a Councillor for the last four years and have lived and worked in Paignton for many years.

My main interest before being elected was in Social Care in which I have a diploma and an Adult Teaching Certificate.

I wish to continue my work for Preston, especially supporting the Council’s efforts to provide better services for the elderly and the most vulnerable

The Bay needs re-generation to supply jobs and attract visitors.

Education and Housing for the less well off need to be improved and I would strive to provide these for our residents.

I have served Preston for nearly years and have been involved in many local issues including working for the Care Homes to remain open and for facilities to be made available for the children and young people.

I have been involved with “MY PLACE” at Parkfield in Preston which will open later this year.

It is been a privilege and honour to serve as a Preston Councillor.
