FINAL SUCCESS AFTER 60 YEARS

SOUTH DEVON LINK ROAD

The Government announced approval for the South Devon Link Road as part of the Autumn Spending review on 29th November 2011.

The success of the 60 year campaign will bring vital economic  and employment benefits to Torbay

and attract important inward investment to the bay, helping to stabilise the long term economic future.

Mayor Gordon Oliver, who spoke with the Prime Minister at Downing Street only days before the announcement, the current and previous Conservative administrations, the previous Mayor and Conservative MP’s from both Totnes and Newton Abbot constituencies united in their pressure over the last five years to achieve this success.  The excellent preparatory work done by the Torbay, Devon and Teignbridge authorities to ensure that a rapid start could be made on the project, once approved, was a significant factor in gaining approval.
